About

Professor Cristina Dorador is on an urgent mission. She’s leading an expedition deep into the stunning landscape of the world’s highest and driest desert, the Atacama in Chile. Her goal is to find new medicines to fight the terrifying rise of drug-resistant superbugs. These bugs already kill 5 million people every year, and that figure is expected to soar without the work of explorers like Cristina.

The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine

LIFE INVISIBLE was made possible through a collaboration between Nobel Prize Outreach and Grain Media, with support from the Novo Nordisk Foundation, an independent Danish enterprise foundation that supports scientific, humanitarian and social causes.

The film celebrates the legacy of Alexander Fleming, who was awarded the 1945 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for the discovery of penicillin and its curative effect in various infectious diseases. Fleming's discovery of penicillin in 1928 revolutionised the treatment of bacterial infections and his achievement has made the work of Dr Cristina Dorador possible.

Nobel Prize Outreach’s mission is to inspire change guided by Alfred Nobel’s vision to work “for the greatest benefit to humankind”. They do this by developing ambitious national and international outreach activities to disseminate knowledge on Nobel Prize-awarded achievements and to engage and inspire people to tackle the greatest challenges of our times, through various creative initiatives, which includes their support of documentaries.

In the desert, there are microorganisms that survive extreme conditions and produce substances that could be used to create new antibiotics....."

The Moveable Fest

Bloodlines, Mississippi Screening

"Life Invisible” is already a reflection of what Perut and Osnovikoff were in pursuit of when teaming with the British-based Grain Media to show how some small overlooked element on one side of the world can have a great impact on another far away. Before the film begins to criss-cross the globe at various festivals, the filmmaking duo spoke about how the film got off the ground, its meticulous visual style that allows audiences to have the broader view that Dr. Dorador has had and the complicated questions raised by the film about striking the right balance for the environment and its inhabitants....."
