About

'From Devil's Breath' tells the remarkable first person story of two narratives that come crashing together — that of a community of survivors of the deadly 2017 wildfires in Portugal, fighting to ensure what they’ve lived through can never happen again, and a revolutionary, world-changing scientific discovery which could help protect us all from the climate emergency.

Presented by MSNBC and Time Studios. A co-production with Appian Way.

Impact

FROM DEVIL'S BREATH is currently airing on MSNBC and Peacock - https://www.nbc.com/the-turning-point-from-devils-breath/video/the-turning-point-from-devils-breath/8000007536

The film reached nearly 2M people through airings on MSNBC and demonstrably expanded MSNBC’s Sunday night television audience, with more than half of all viewers being new to the MSNBC Sunday night time slot, and more than 8 in 10 viewers between ages 25-54.

Working with the team at Project Impact, a worldwide impact campaign was launched in Autumn 2021 focusing on leading the audience to the RESTOR.ECO platform - a global hub for the restoration movement, aka the Google Maps for restoration, which evolved alongside the film. RESTOR was nominated for the Earthshot prize and, after release of film has more than 120,000 restoration projects signed up to it, who, as a result, now have access to data which could boost the success of their efforts immeasurably. The premiere of the film more than doubled website traffic to RESTOR.ECO and reached more than 1.5 million viewers through broadcast as well as key press pieces in major publications such as TIME Magazine.

FROM DEVIL’S BREATH has engaged global decision makers through screenings and curated panel discussions at key climate events such as TED Countdown, COP26, COP27, and multiple UN events both in person and virtually.

It has helped advance nature-based climate solutions to both politicians and citizens in Portugal through a bespoke screening tour across the country. And innovative campaign partnerships have helped harness the film to reach audiences far beyond environmental and conservation eco chambers, making the film a tool for addressing a planetary crisis at scale.

From a star-studded UN digital gala to a partnership with producer Leonardo DiCaprio, the film’s engagement campaign has elevated attention on climate-induced wildfires and the power of nature-based solutions.

Finally, a collaboration with award-winning musical group Bastille is ensuring the impacts of the campaign outlive the film itself. This partnership lead to the recording of a bespoke end credit music track for the film and a collaboration with Earth Percent (through which a portion of streaming proceeds from BASTILLE’s music will go directly to supporting ecosystem restoration projects that combat the climate crisis. ) The associated music video and BTS content was shared widely across social media and boosted traffic to the film and associated causes.
